allen signs
today the bruins announced that bobby allen has resigned. he showed himself to be a competant 5-7 d-man last season and i am for one happy for him. i did like his game, i put him in the same sort of slot that don sweeney held in my mind, undersized, good smarts, doesnt stick out- but in that way that is good for a d-man. welcome back bobby.

I am very happy about this signing. He was the one I wanted the most. He was solid and dependable unlike many of the other guys. I hope he finally gets a chance to stick in the big leagues.
I also like this signing but to compare him to Don Sweeney is stretchning it a bit. Sweeney was one of the best defensive defensemen to ever were the black and gold, had one of the biggest hearts ever and in his prime was one of the fastest skaters in the league.
Allen is a steady, reliable defenseman but lets not be to generous with the comparisons just yet.
jimbuff.... i do not think i "compared" him as much as i said they share attributes, which i think is fair. is he and will he ever be in the same as don? no. but can he share similar spots in my mind. yes.
Fair enough. I was just a huge Sweeney fan and wanted to have my say. I felt he was always underappreciated b/c of playing alongside the legend Raymond Bourque. People were always noticing Ray but alot never realized how important Don was to our defense back then.
If it makes you feel better Buff, I liked Dono. Who could forget that one punch knock out against the Whalers in the playoffs. I think it may have been Verbeek he knocked out. Anyone else recall?

I don't think it was Verbeek - my memories are telling me it was Dean Evason but I am getting older and memories are fading so I say 80% it was Evason and not Verbeek. If someone is 100% sure please let me know.
