Unnecessary Move

It looks as though the Boston Bruins have acquired a new goaltender.

According to the Pioneer Press, the Minnesota Wild have traded Manny Fernandez to the Bruins for forward Petr Kalus and a future fourth-round draft pick.

Not that I think Manny is a bad goalie but Boston's problems last season were not the fault of goaltending. This is a panic move by desperate a GM who really doesn't seem to understand the BIG picture. P.C. looks like he is trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist instead of fixing problems that do.

Lets see what happens over the next few days (free agent market opens up today) to see what (if any) vision P.C. has for this team.

Well, it could be worse. There were those who thought the B's should sell the farm for a new goaltender (the goaltender always seems greener on the other side you know). Trading Muzz for a goalie or taking on a high-priced free agent would have been particularly stupid, but that's what some crazy people wanted.

Now our primary price for this deal will be seeing Fenandez turn out to be a second rater and Kalus hoist the cup with some other team or become their top goal scorer. You know, the usual stuff...

As for the draft pick, PC should at a minimum be able to get that in return for Toivanen.

At least we still have our top goal scorer and room to do something about getting a left wing for the top line. Reading the comments of some others about the "aging" Muzz you'd think he was a slacker who the team would be somehow better off without. I just don't get that.
