7th player

congradulations to tim thomas as the winner of the 7th player award for the second straight year.

quick somebody tell timmy that the 7th player award is not how many goals the fans hope you give up in the game the night you are presented the award!

Why the hell do they call it the 7th Player Award anyway? Considering there's a maximum of six players on the ice at any given time, doesn't calling someone a 7th player almost seem insulting?

"Great job riding the bench there, Timmy!"
"What are you talking about? I was in goal the whole game!"

i think it something like this doob. there are the 6 guys, one for each position, on the ice that you expect big things from. then there is some 7th guy who comes in out of no where an blows your mind. or something like that. it is a odd award in that it does say we never expected this out of YOU!

Yeah, but in the NBA they have the Sixth Man Award which at least makes sense. They give it to the best player in the league who primarily came off the bench.

Going by that logic, why would you have a "Seventh Player" award and then give it to someone who starts nearly every game?
